  • There are many forms of treatment available to a person suffering from mesothelioma, the most common of which are: surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Immediate and aggressive treatment is necessary to make a difference.
  • It is estimated that approximately 70 to 80 percent of mesothelioma cases are directly related to asbestos exposure.
  • Mesothelioma may take anywhere from 20 to 50 years to develop following exposure to asbestos. However, high concentrations of this dangerous substance may cause the disease to develop more rapidly.
  • Second-hand exposure to asbestos may be another cause of mesothelioma, due to transfer of the fibers from the clothing or skin of a person who works with asbestos.
